Fishing around docks

I was fishing around a dock today in between a sea wall and the dock head. I had an old man coming running out of his house yelling at me and telling me that i was trespassing and needed to leave. I made sure that my boat was not touching his sea wall nor his dock and kept fishing. Man was this guy mad at one point I thought he was going to get on my boat. I did ask the guy if he was so bored that the only thing he had to do was screw with me. I watched him for a while and he watched me for a while through his kitchen window. So if any of you would meet my friend he lives in the first house on the creek that the county park is on. His house has a raised dock and a silver sea wall. He would love to meet some of my friends.

Do you think it is jut inbreeding that makes them crazy like that?

Make sure to let everyone know you caught 32 reds, 12 trout, and 8 flounder and you are sure to have a Charleston Fishing meet and greet there next time!

I dunno why, some old people turn into complete a-holes with age.

Across the street, the original owner of house A put in an irrigation system boarding the properly line of house B.

Over the years house A has changed ownership at least 3 times. House B has also changed ownership as many times.

Recently the owners of houses A & B have begun feuding over trash on the curb and whether or not house A trash crossed the line on the street of house B. Cops have been called multiple times.

While the owners of house A were out of town for a funeral, the owner of house B surveyed the property line and discovered the irrigation installed 3-4 owners ago, was set 2-3 inches into house B’s propertly line.

The owners of house B cut the irrigation system in two at the property line.

Pretty stupid stuff.

What is the saying, good fences make good neighbors?

if you are harrassed while fishing near a private dock, call DNR and report the homeowner. A visit from the boys in green will change their attitude.

Throw a handful of minnows on the dock so you attract a large ■■■■■ of seagulls before you go.

Pretend you are the dock owner and you walk down what you have worked for and see someone tied there.

What would you do?

Respect those and they will respect you.

The man said he was not touching dock or wall. Personally I’ll stay outside the dock and fish all around it but won’t go in what I like to call a stall. That is between a dock and a wall or what ever else. That being a dock that runs out from the wall and then turns parrallel to the wall.

NEVER tie off to a private dock with out permission. It goes both ways.

I would have kept fishing too. As long as you’re not tied or anchored to his property, it should’nt be a problem. You should have asked him to grab you a beer while he was in the kitchen.[:D"]

I do believe that the homeowner who cut the irrigation vandalized. I thought that issues like this conveyed with change of ownership. Speaking of surveying, for kicks and giggles, take a some 8’ lengths of rebar, stab into the mud around the dock and flag it and tell them you had it surveyed from the water and you are on your own property as a recreational fisherman. Don’t go away mad, just go away.

Sometimes old people get grumpy. If it happens again, I would just call the DNR and let them explain or just fish somewhere else. Unless it is a hot spot, why bother with it. Yes, you certainly have the legal right to fish there, but sometimes it isn’t worth it.

I was cruising through conk creek a couple of months ago and this old man started yelling at me because I was on the inside of his orange mooring ball he put 15 feet out from his dock. I wasn’t on plane and didn’t have any wake. I knew legally I could ride all along the water, but I just smiled and waved at him and moved along.

Well JTM I guess I could have run away like a little p—y and not stood my ground for my right. I am not the type to give in because somebody else doesn’t like what I’m doing (if I’m not doing anything wrong). That is part of our problem now in this world stand up for your rights and not run like a punk.

Whatever floats your boat. My point was there is a time to fight for your right and there are times when it isn’t really worth it. Only you can make that call.

If it makes you feel better to have a stand off with an old man and not be a p#$$y as you stated, then more power to you.

We all need to respect each others property. It is totally uncool to tie up to someone’s dock! I would have to hold someone for the cops if they stole from me. HATE a thief.

Maybe you can “cut down” on tie offs with a couple small signs:

  1. “Please anchor instead of tying to this private dock.”
  2. “If it’s tied to my dock, it’s mine (including your boat!).”

As hard as it may be to accept, while you own the wood and nails of your dock, we all own the water it stands in. Never forget that you are a guest, only allowed there with all of our permission (through the authority we vest in our lawmakers).

DID YA"LL NOT READ THE POST, I WAS NOT TIED UP TO THE MANS DOCK, NOR WAS I TOUCHING HIS DOCK IN ANYWAY SHAPE OR FORM. MY POINT WAS TO SHOW HOW PEOPLE THINK THAT THEY OWN EVERYTHING AND THINK THEY CAN PUSH PEOPLE AROUND. IF I WERE TIED UP TO THE MANS DOCK HE HAD ALRIGHT TO CALL THE COPS, YELL AT ME, OR UNTIE THE BOAT. THAT IS NOT WHAT HAPPENED.
