Fishing Etiquette? Rant

Stopped at an inlet to fish only to have someone come right up next to me and start plopping lines on top of me. Had that happen to me several times the past couple of days. I ran one guy off cause he kept hooking my line. i was there first (bottom fishing). Is there a general common courtesy of how close you should be next to a someone fishing? (the exception of pier fishing). Its one of my biggest pet peeves. generally i keep at least a two cast distance from the next person if they are in a spot i wanted. Or should i have the you dont own the beach attitude like some people seem to have?

If i can cast and hit you then you are too close.

Dude, you were clearly in HIS spot. Lol.

And you were probably trying to catch HIS fish!! LOL

The rule of thumb is if you arrived first. It is your spot. He has no buisness casting into your spread. There is a difference between sharing the beach and allowing someone to cast over your head and stand right next to you. If he does kindly ask him if he could give you some space, so you aren’t getting lines tangled and try it the nice way. If he refuses do cannon balls in the water until he gets the picture. Ruin it for him. If you can’t fish it, he can’t either. If that doesn’t work drop a deuce in his cooler and call it a day:smiley:

I’m a laid back, no drama kind of person. If some heybo moves in on me…without asking …I will move.
There is alot of beach to fish, don’t pin yourself to one spot or beach. Summer time is not the best fishing anyways, too many people, way too much traffic, it gets f*&%#+! HOT, and those pesky Sharks are everwhere!
The best way I find to avoid folks is go were they won’t or can’t go. You also have to be moble, if you’re not gitting bites, MOVE! There are spots I fish that are a mile or so from the car or 1/4-1/2 mile hike through the woods.
Best bet, get out early, come in early or out late in later.

I have this happen to me all the time. People think my lines are casted straight ahead of my rod holder and they are not. I cast my left one way left and my right one way right. I stand my ground though everytime and will and have casted on top of their lines.

I’m with Stevo ;; also been known to cast in ( MY ) zone when I’m there first and if there just happens to be a line in my hooks when i reel in to check or land fish just cut unwanted lines free…:imp::imp::imp: Especially if it happens more than once or twice…

Maybe that guy was trying to “hook up” with ya. If ya get my drift. Maybe he wanted to entangle his line with yours so he could get close to you while y’all worked it out.

Did he give you a wink or two?[:0]

You gotta claim “your space” by spreading out your pier top junk all over the place to the left and right of you.

Thats too funny! sounds like you might have a story or two, Jisuho. LoL

No personal stories thank goodness. But I used to live in Myrtle Beach way back before it got too crowded and I was informed by some fishing buddies not to fish the beach between Myrtle and North Myrtle as it was a known spot for ‘that’ kind.

Maybe they just told me that to keep me from a good fishing location. IDK. I still caught fish where I went - north end of Pawleys.

Back in the day either end of folly was known for those people. Lol.

Today it seems THOSE TYPES are everywhere:imp:
