When I fished the Fishing For Miracles Tournament for the first time I remember thinking to myself that it would be a miracle if I won the tournament. While that thought was probably accurate, the purpose of the tournament made me realize just how lucky I am to have my health and the resources to fish tournaments. Proceeds from this tournament go toward the MUSC Children’s Hospital Fund. To best explain what the MUSC Children’s Hospital Fund is all about I am going to steal a paragraph from their website and let them sum it up in their own words.
“Children’s Hospital Fund
Over the past ten years, the Children’s Hospital Fund has played a major role in the development of programs within MUSC Children’s Hospital. Since its inception, the Children’s Hospital Fund has solicited community support for three primary purposes. The first is to support our child life department with toys, games, art supplies and other materials to entertain children and make their visit more pleasant. The second is to support research in the prevention and treatment of childhood diseases. Over the past years, the Children’s Hospital Fund has made possible the study of research in many pediatric disciplines, including brain disorders, cancer, sickle cell anemia, and heart abnormalities to name a few. The third purpose is to support the development of treatment programs within the department of pediatrics.”
This is the largest King Mackerel Tournament in the area and the reason is not only because it is a great tournament, but also because of the fund raising component that draws in people that you don’t find in the regular base of tournament king mackerel fishermen. Many people come to the awards ceremonies and other events during the weekend just to have fun and enjoy the atmosphere. Even if you are not fishing you can still help donate money to the fund by buying a t-shirt or making a donation straight to the children’s hospital.
The tournament begins on Thrusday Aug. 17th with the Captains meeting and will wrap up Sa
