Fishing from Shore on Daufuskie

Doing a day trip w/ the family to Daufuskie in a couple weeks & would like to get my little brother on some fish. I’ll be happy to do the prospecting myself, but if anyone is willing to point us towards some good areas, I’d appreciate the info.

Not too many people on this forum are likely surf fishing on Daufuskie. Plus the weather pattern is not normal. Please make a post after and let us know how you did.

I know Daufuskie is remote, but just like fishing, it’s worth a shot to see if anyone has some info they’d like to share.

Pull up google earth and look near the inlets for troughs. I don’t imagine they get a lot of pressure on Daufuskie but the weather is not really right yet for surf fishing.

Never fished there, have looked into it though. But the $35 boat ride & the $75+ golf cart rental…a little much to catch a few Whiting.

Looking at the map, a couple spots look like good to start.

The north end near the creek mouth, around the “bowls” out to the point around the corner to the cut out.

The south end from point to point and maybe check out the dark area just around the northern point, could be oyster shells, moss grass, riprap?

Get some fresh shrimp, best all round bait in the surf. From Atlantic Sharpnose sharks to Weakfish, they will all eat it.

To further Dpakers scouting using a previous satellite image at low tide. The southern end of the island on the tip there looks to be a few places that would be good to work through during the incoming tide.
Nice pool that forms at high tide, I like the pool that is at the end of the beachside jetty, but the river side jetty looks good and the fact that there is a boat parked there in the picture could be a good sign.

These images were from the before the storm! Might have changed since Mathew! Hope you find a good place.

I think the first pic is closer to Haig point, which is difficult to get to. You’d have to walk the beach from Melrose because Haig point streets are gated and don’t allow gas carts, which is what most rentals are. The second is far south behind Bloody Point, which is probably better access, but the south end of Bloody Point is only accessible if you cut across somewhere that you probably shouldn’t or walk a good ways.

The beaches are amazingly relaxing and cart paths are kind of where the eye beholds them in a lot of ways, but I never feel great about it cutting down paths through people’s lots that probably aren’t appreciated at times, but most are undeveloped.

I love the place, but I wouldn’t want to be on the beach today though.

Be careful around bloody point. There are numerous sand bars that run a pretty good ways out into the ocean. However, they drop off with a quickness. And they disappear as the tide comes in.

Never done it this time of the year, but used to maintain an Alltel site on the Island, kept a wrangler on the Island with a surf rod and in the Fall a nice salted fillet of Mullet would get you some nice over slot Reds. I’ve seen some trout caught near the local “bar” on the back side of the Island. Old boy was using a green with red curly tail grub. Heard the Island took a lot of damage this past storm?

Keep us posted!
