Is it just my bad luck or is surf fishing in town slow for anyone else lately? I was on a roll in May-July but this month has been crap. Anyone else?
granted i havent had much time and just got to a new area but ive gotten a few small gafftop cats, whiting, a small blacktip, and 1 hard knockdown on the shark rod so far in the new home. 1 of the days i had 0 hits tarpon were busting bait over my live whiting lines and a 6 foot blacktip/spinner went airborne not 75 yards from the beach (3.5 hrs south of charleston) been slow and frustrating for me too!
Had some luck last weekend on Folly. Got a 20" red, 2 keeper flounder, an undersized trout, 2’ sharpnose, and a 30" or so red. All caught on live finger mullet. Fished Friday evening, and morning of Saturday and Sunday.
I was in the same boat with not catching much lately. This was a great turn around.
I fished folly surf yesterday for about two hours. I caught two 20 inch reds on some squid. June and July were much better I agree!
I pretty much fish folly, due to location. Anyone having luck anywhere else?
Well went today at Folly past the washout and had a better day that lately. A 4 ft bonnet head and a whiting. Have had worse days.
I fished Folly surf this Saturday and Sunday 8-24 and 8-25 in the surf from about 4-6:30 pm both days. Saturday fishing was fast then slow then fast. 10 whiting, 2 croaker, 2 keeper Flounder, 1 trout, 1 nice 22 inch red, 1 14 inch black drum. Sunday surf and wind was strong! 2 20 inch black drum, 2 huge whiting, 2 smaller reds. On another note today I watched a 6-7 foot shark chase bait up the surf literally 10 feet from a guy swimming… Twice! It scared the heck out of me!
