Fishing report 11/13

Didnt even try to fish saturday. Tried to go out sunday but the current was too strong at sullivans. I tried to go to north folly conditions were much better. But there were a dozen kite surfers out there. Last weekend i wad out there before them and they ran over my lines.

Fished from 7am-1pm. The sharks stayed at bay today and left my baits alone. Caught a 30 inch red. Caught him on a steel double drop rig from walmart, 4/0 lazer sharp circle sea hooks, 8oz weight. Bait was bluefish quarter sized chunk.

Caught a 17 inch redfish on a cajun thunder popping cork with a jig head and live shrimp.

Also caught several bluefish and big whiting on the above mentioned steel leader set ups.

Nice fish !
I went to the North end of Folly yesterday and the wind and current were bad. Couldn’t keep 8 ounces down. Gave up after 3 hours. A couple of nice whiting and a small black drum. Sometimes 1 day can make a difference.

Thats how it was at sullys after throwing 2 8oz pyramids out on one rod and it didnt stick i gave up. I saw 2 people fishing North folly to the right when you first walk onto the beach. Was that you or someone else?

Good report Stevo, thank you. You must have some serious back bone in those rods to throw 16 ounces of lead:smiley: Keep at it the season will shut down when it gets real cold.

The okuma longitude 10ft is one hell of a rod.

What can i catch after it gets cold around here. Do the sheepshead bite all year round at mt pleasant pier?

You need to talk to one of the pier guy’s about that. They know what’s hitting in the winter on the pier better than I do. The surf will hopefully produce for a couple more weeks. Maybe into December if we are lucky depending on the water temp. I’m hoping to get in another trip or two if I can. The longitude rod your talking about has no problem chunking like an 8 ounce weight plus bait. I was thinking about something heavier for next year. My shark rods fight great but make me nervous throwing heavy weight. The price looks good on them. Is the tip solid or flimsy? Looks like more wind this weekend, mother nature needs to cut us a break.

The tip on the longitude is firm. Its the firmest rod i have besides my 12ft offshore angler ocean master. No problems throwing 8plus bait. I have thrown a 8oz sputnik plus a whole whiting for sharks with it. I also threw 2 8oz pyramids on it last weekend. Ive never really got worked up over a rod but this one has done me right since i bought it. Im going to be switches to all these next season.

Thanks for the info. Ridiculous I’m already thinking of next season:smiley: I was looking at a 12ft Tica Dolphin XH 6-12oz rod. Another old rod that people commonly refer to on the internet that has developed a cult following that they say is no longer made is the 12 FT Ocean Master heavy. I know a very good shark fisherman based out of Florida that landed a 10 ft hammerhead on one with a Penn 10500 spinfisher. They say the Tica is very similar and a good alternative to the Ocean Master heavy rod. The Tica Dolphin runs around 200. I need 2, so it’s may be more than I want to bite off. Your rod may give me an affordable alternative. The same shark fisherman out of Florida also seems to like some of the heavier big Star Rods as well. Good to get feed back before making an investment. Good luck Stevo. When you going to put that little one on one of those big reds:smiley:

I was to the left up the beach between 2nd 3rd seawall past the last house

Ive had offers on my 12ft ocean master for more than i paid for it brand new from everyone wanting it. The 10ft okuma longitude has simular stiffness and if it was the 12ft longitude i would say it would be about the same.
