Fishing report for 6,16-23

Went left out of live oak landing and took left @ big bay creek. Caugth 25 nice sized whiting, several rays, and hooked up with a monster redfish (broke line). From the bank at live oak landing we caught whiting, croker, and spot.Caught some really nice spots at the wall on the road going to steamboat. Caught plenty fresh mullet in the golf course pond for sharking. From the surf caught 5 sharpnoses 2-3 feet. Hooked two rays 60-80 pounds. Had at least a 4.5 foot shark chew my 100lb mono leader off right in the surf and had 3 more lines broke which I feel sure was a good sharks. Landed one bull shark ( i think it was a bull) in the surf that was just over the limit. Go to the surf early morning or late evening during or around low tide with a fresh hunk of fish and hang on. All in a all a good week at edisto. The only thing that was disheartening about the whole trip was that the sea-cow changed their hamburgers. Why did they have to go and f-up the best cheesburger on the island.

sounds like a good week. i’m not so happy about the bull shark in the surf though. did you keep it?

I kept him. He was of legal size but barely. Here’s the pic. Maybe you can give me the skinny on the species.

Not an expert, but it is not a bull, looks like a Sharpnose to me, can’t really tell. There is not a size limit on Sharpnose…just a limit of 2 per person

He had all the features of the smaller sharpnose w/out the spots. His head was wide and flat. I am no expert either but I didnt think that sharpnose sharks got that big. He looked big to me Im guessing 40 - 50 lbs.

After looking at it a little, I think you are correct. It does appear to be a Bull.
