My wife and I plan on going out this weekend and doing some fishing. We have no rods yet so it looks like the pier. But should we go to the Folly pier or Mt. Pleasant? Is the pier fishing good yet?
We just moved here in January and I have been looking forward to fishing. I plan on buy a rod and a set up to do some surf fishing. Being new to the area, when I do some bottom surf fishing, should I just park near the pier and fish around there, or is there better spots on the beach that you guys would recommend? Maybe that wouldn’t be as crowded. Please let me know your guys thoughts.
Thanks
Folly pier, if you do a pier. Get there EARLY if you do a weekend otherwise you’ll have to park in San Diego.
Take shrimp and cut squid. Whiting love both, and the squid is a touch harder to get off the hook. Just don’t use huge pieces or you’ll stingray yourself to death.
You can fish the beach/surf if you drive down the end (north end), but again, parking is a joke. They charge you four fingers and a spleen to park in their dirt lot, or else you can park on the street if there’s a square inch left to occupy when you get there lol. The fishing on the north end is more likely to produce something of size for you, in my experience.
For ease and fun, the pier is your best bet. For a little harder work, sand in your shorts, and a longer walk, the surf at the north end can perhaps give you a better shot at something a touch bigger (the inlet is very near there).
