Wondering, does anybody soak there shrimp in a salt water brine?
Like the offshore guys to toughen up there ballyhoo, why not do it to shrimp for surf fishing. I have tried it before and it does make the shrimp tougher and not turn to mush as quick. But I just don’t get to fish the coast enough to be able to tell if its my salty shrimp or just the wrong day.
Opinions ???
I try to do it when I have time to soak them, it does help a lot in the surf.
Haven’t tried the salt method but using good quality shrimp that are not frozen helps the bait to stay on the hook better. Often shrimp sling off before they ever hit the water. Keeping an eye out for this helps as well.
Fresh quality Shrimp, shell on, stays hooked very well. In the hot months, keep it as cold as you can. Freezing over night helps. I always put my Shrimp in the freezer 3-4 hours before every trip.
But…Store bought frozen shrimp might make an okay stir fry, not good for bait. Not that the fish won’t eat it, just way to smooshy.
Fresh food quality shrimp for me too. When I get to the beach, I put it in a small container with ice and salt water. Keeps it cold and toughens it up a bit.

Walmart has frozen shrimp that has soaked in brine. The “stinger” bait Brad I think. Yellow bags in back by tackle. Many may scoff at this but I’ve caught my fair share of fish w Walmart bait.

I have always slamed Walmart but last year while in Gulf shores Ala. I went in and checked out the fishing department, to my suprise it was the size of the avrage drugstore with all you ever need including frozen bally, and ribbon fish.
Tried some leftover boiled shrimp last year with good results. Bluefish loved it. Stayed on hook great. Maybe, it one of those random days.
Ya know, it must be nice living in Neverneverland. Remind me to come visit you, when I need a break from reality.
