flounder fishing

same rig just take all the beads off except one behind the blade and one in front.Put a swivel on it.

So the blade stays free to slide up and down the leader line? The swivel replaces the clasp tied on the non hook end?

Yes the blade can ride free up and down the line. When you pull it it is right above the hook.Rick had a Seminar at the club (SRFC) and everyone enjoyed it.He uses the chartreuse blade in muddy water.

STONOMAN,
Thanks for sharing! Always something for a newbie to learn, thanks for being willing to teach

Going today and pick up some more blades for flounder rigs.

Stonoman

Where do you get your blades?

I have a flounder tournament at north inlet in 3 weeks. I cant wait to try this bad boy out. Thanks guys!

I think I saw Venus Williams wearing something like that beaded rig in a tennis match a few years ago!

Sorry you can’t catch Flounder in Charleston, they have all been reserved for Steve & Brandon.
Flounder catching sum*****es right there!

Well, …finally…caught my first flounder today!

It was a thrill…been drowning mud minnnors for a month now…so

it was a great feeling!

Stonoman,

What color does the blade need to be…anything in particular, no

color???

Thanks!

Bringing up an old post. Would it be overkill to add a float to this rig?

We catch a bunch of them on spoons when we pull them out of the edge of the grass and let them free fall.

There are a ton of different spoons but these very weedless and flutter down slowly when killed.

Go to Cabela’s and look for “Spin n’glow” spinners that you thread on your line. They make good flounder rigs, too. Same idea; simpler to rig, and they spin a lot easier, don’t jam up. I’d love to get to the flounders at the edge of some barges at the reefs, but the wind/waves have been really bad out there. Fish On and On!

Thanks for the tips guys. While I catch quite a few, any new tips and techniques are welcome

Thanks Stono. Interestingly, we used the exact same rig on Norris lake in east TN to troll for walleye when I was a kid, about 35 yrs ago. The only difference is we used Night Crawlers for bait.

Nothing beats a mud minnow on a carolina rig. Soft plastics on a 1/8 to 1/4 ounce jig head should always work too, if you’re on them.

Stono you must be refering to R Donovan??? Flounder fear him for sure…

I use a light and a #9 B&M Gig, but I did switch over to some aluminum handled gigs from Haddrells with stainless spears in 2011. The old douglas fur poles are getting heavier as I get older. Also, only slot sized reds can go over the side so a powerful gig handle is not needed anymore to handle bigger fish. Only the time extra horse power is needed is when I happen to run across a 10-12 lbs Sheepshead. Them things are pretty tough.
