Flounder Gigging questions

Ive got the itch to start getting my rig together for the summer. After several unsucsessful trips, I believe its due to lack of light.

Just wondering what peoples setups are that works. Halogen vs LED flood lights? Generator or battery power? How many lights and what size? If a generator, is a 4 stroke a must?

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

I have always used just one battery and two bowl lights from lowes and we have always done decent. Im sure having the generator and bunch of bright lights would help but I cant see spending the $$ on that. Just my $.02

IF your giggin where there arent any fish to start with, a bunch of light wont matter anyhow…

I prefer a Q Beam spotlight. Works like a champ. We used to do it with Coleman gas lanterns in the old days and always got plenty of fish.

Yeah, Id prefer not to drop $500 or more into the wholevthing if possible.

Where do you generally look for them? I know around oyster beds. But sand or mud bottom? Is one better than the other? Figure sand may produce clearer water.

I have a very nice lite that is practically new and I am not able to go anymore. If you are interested shoot me a message.

I like gigging a sandy bottom with a little oysters mixed in. Too muddy a bottom and too many oysters shells will usually hold more bait fish which will spook and muddy the water.

Dang Larry I was thinking I was the only one old enough around here to have used the Coleman Lantern. I took the Q beam one step further and mounted a small one on the front of an old football helment so that I was hands free to pole the boat. Now for the real age give away, one time about 3 in the morning coming back from gigging approaching the Hilton Head draw bridge I moved the Q-Beam back and forthe like the barges used to do and the bridge operator opened the bridge for me. As for where to gig, gig where you can see good, cover the turf and you will find plenty.
