Flounder idea question

About a year ago I fished a pier in NC . Caught a bunch of whiting, black drum at night. I was leaving and near the waters edge I saw flounder moving all around in the 6" deep water. There was a strong floodlight shining in the water. Occasionally I would see a flounder turn upside down - white side up - I assume to see the sand fleas. There were lots of baitfish under the light I made a carolina rig with a long leader and a #4 j hook and cut belly strips from the whiting. I hooked the cut strips one time in the larger end so the hook was well exposed. I could see the flounder pick up my bait. I easily caught my limit, with several door mats in the 6 lb range. The next night I returned with the same rig and mud minnows. I took my 4 battery led mag light and lashed it to the pier aimed at a spot 5 yards out from the pier - my results were even better.

The question - Would this work here? What if I built a PVC frame to hold a high intensity LED light and fished under the light at night? Has anyone tried this? Share your thoughts

Good idea.

What do you have to lose!

Sounds like a bright idea to me.

has anyone tried this before? I’m making a T shaped stand from EMT to hold 2 high intensity LED lights about 4’ above the water.

About 20 years ago we were shrimping off a public dock using Coleman lanterns. Some guy shows up and asks if he can set up a larger light on the center of the dock about 3’ from the water and join us which was cool. I believe that he said it was a sodium mercury and he ran it off a small gas generator that he staged about 30 yards away. He fired it up and within about 15-20 minutes it was game on with the shrimp, fish, and flounder. Don’t know if that would be acceptable with DNR nowadays with baiting rules etc.
