I know ya’ll have done fly swaps in the past but would anyone be interested in doing a pic/recipe of thier favorite fly. What do you think, feature one weekly/monthly. I have seen pictures of some great flies on here and it would also help the rookies like me! I’m game but don’t expect anything spectacular!
Sounds like a good idea to me. I’m new to the game of tying (and fly fishing, for that matter), but have been putting in some time at the vice.
I’d also be willing to coordinate another fly swap, if we can get enough interest to do one.
Good idea but you may want to check out some of the older posts as well as some of the other fishing sites and forums. Reeltime is a good source for some excellent Bugs as are several of the Tying & Fly Fishing Magazines which also have web sites, forums and video clips. The primary Orvis Site as well as Flordia Sportsman is another good source for productive warm water patterns as is Art’s and Flies. You can also pick up some really good coffee table type books on tying with comentary, pics and recipes however if your looking for some good basic tying technique with a bit of instruction, philosophy and ideas on design, construction and tying technique check out Kerh, Clouser, Popavics & Borski. They all have excellent DVDs & Videos that will help. Its been my personal experience that if you can master most of the basic techniques that the Fab 4 demonstrate, you can tie just about anything you need or want. The really cool part is when you get comfortable and confident enough with your own abilities that you tweak, modify or creat what every you need for the conditions you fish, now that’s fish’in!
Thanks for the info JMB but I was trying to start smething on the local thread here. I’ll give it another week or so to get responses and if there seems to nbe enough interested than I’ll start with the first fly. Fresh water flies are not excluded. Not speaking for everyone but it seems a few of us are also into doing a little rock hopping in the mountains for trout. Thanks.
yeah. sounds good to me.
heres my spoon fly recipe.
sprinkle some gorilla tape with scraps of flashaboo on the sticky side. not too much or it will leak water. then stick a sheet of overhead projector acetate to it. cut it out in spoon shapes with tags on each end.
put some lead wire in the bottom of the curve in a P190 circle set hook(1/0-4/0) and wrap it up.
tie in a puff of stuff as a tail.
tie on the tail tag of spoon -fat end forward.
wrap to front.
bring front tag of spoon tight to hook and wrap finish.
paint it up with hard as nails etc.
redfish flats fly- wobbler.
writing these is harder than i thot. i cant figure out cameras but this was in the swap so if anybody shoots them feel free to post it.

Okay, so far we have 2. I’ll update the list below as people express interest. Also, let me know what you’ll be tying up - don’t want duplicates, if possible. PAWLEYSI, you in?

- Scotty D - ?
- flyfishn - Needlefish Fly
Sorry guys, I got an order for 13 doz. bonefish flies the other day, so it looks like my vice will be tied up (no pun intended) for a while… Have fun though. If I finish in time I might jump in.

I am in. I can tie a rattle or glow shrimp pattern (The latter has been killer around dock lights at night). I will tie the glow fly as a default, but if someone wants a rattle shrimp, just let me know and I will tie that one instead.

2006 25hp Yamaha Four Stroke

We are doing a swap with the people listed - unless I’m really confused.
Here’s the recipe. Forgive the bad pics. Nikonjedi has me beat hands down in the photo department.
Start with the hook size you want. This demo is a 1/0 big eye
Tie on your thread and make a saddle with two humps of thread
Then secure your lead eye or bead chain eye with 5 or 6 X wraps
Next tie on white bucktail. trim the bucktail and secure both infront of AND behind the eyes. Bring the thread back in front of the eyes.
Turn the fly over and secure crystal flash or flashabou IN FRONT of the eye. Trim on a taper and wrap to the eye and back to start forming the head. coat with epoxy.
Tie in “INSERT YOUR FAVORITE COLOR HERE” I used equal amounts of chart and dark brown. Trim to a taper, wrap to form the head and tie off.
coat with 2 or more coats of epoxy.
the finished fly
