Too Busy - not setting a drop-dead date until we get 10 people in. I will go ahead and email y’all my address so you can send them in as soon as you get them tied.

This is looking sweet! Glow shrimp, Nice!

Is anyone else going to post recipe pics?
I’d really like to see some of these tied.

How to Tie the Copperhead
(I’m using all black, but you can substitute copper and rootbeer colors to make other varieties.)

Edited to add material list

Materials:
Hook - #2 Gamakatsu SL11-3H
Thread - Black
Eyes - Nickel plated dumbells (1/30 oz)
Tail - Black Flashabou
Body - Black Chenille
Wing - Black Flashabou and Black Krystal Flash
Weedguard (Optional) - Hard mono

Lay down base of thread from the hook eye back to the bend of the hook.

Tie in dumbell eyes with figure-8 wraps, being sure to leave some space between them and the hook eye for the wing and a neat head.

Tie in Flashabou at bend in hook. Adding one wrap under/behind the Flashabou helps to keep it suspended behind the hook.

Trim away excess in front and tie down securely. Trim tail to shank length.

Tie in black chenille at base of tail. Trim away excess in front and tie down securely, wrapping thread all the way to directly behind the eyes.

Palmer the chenille forward (tighter or looser determines the bulkiness of the body). Secure behind eyes with a few wraps. DON’T TRIM AWAY EXCESS YET!

OPTIONAL If you want to use a simple weedguard, this is when you would need to do so. Using heavy mono, insert weedguard through the hook’s eye.

(Sorry about pictures from here on - flash on camera stopped working)
Tie weedguard down to the dumbell eyes - trim away excess and rotate your hook.

I’ll do a few Honey lambs- a bonefish fly w/ converted colors and sizes for our reds.

Don’t have any pics/recipes of my own creations, but this is a good one that is great on the bass. Most of my flies are starting to resemble this style. Borski’s inspiration I guess.

I’d say not. Scotty D said they swallow them deep anyway - stinger might make it difficult to release them.

alrighty i also got a polar shrimp pattern that looks deadly and im trying to decide which would be the best to tie for the swap. what do yall want, polar shrimp or needlefish?

strip…strip…FISH ON!

Why don’t you tie both, if you’re up for it I’ll double up and tie Kwans & Toads. Any color preferences?

im up for tying both

heres a good site that tells step by step how to tie numberous flies that i found: http://www.mangrovecoastflyfishers.com/flytyings.php

JBM, here are some pictures of good color combos:

Dang,
Everybody on here is better at BOTH tying and photography than me.
I guess I need to practice both more, but I’m just…Too Busy

I’ll get the full batch of clousers tied tonight and be ready for the swap.

flyfishin- awesome pics!! great setup w/ hackle, thread.

My 2 cents. Why don’t we wait until the flies are shiped then everyone can post the recipe/pics under new topics to keep them seperated?

good idea, it will keep this under 15 pages. Im gonna try and post my as a youtube address and do it on video.

alright so is everyone tying 2 or just me and JBM?

Dang Flyfishn…you’re puttin the heat on the ole hillbilly…great pics! There’s another good FL based shop that has an excellent web site with good tying references. It’s The Fly Fisherman Inc., out of Titusville, I beleive they also have a shop in Orlando. They have seveal good looking shallow water patterns that take both Reds & Trout. I belevie that they even have a crab pattern or two. Any way if anyone is interested, I’m going with large bead chain eyes on the Toad and small BC on the Kwan unless you guys want something a bit heavier. I know that most of you are fishing some pretty skinny water this time of year with some potentially pretty skittish fish as the schools get worked over pretty hard as the season progresses. This set up should be heavy enough to get the fly on the bottom yet light enough not to spook’em when it hits. For what it’s worth, the BOU tail on the Toad is really hard to beat when you need to dead stick a bait on the back side of a hard cold front when everything seems to shuts down for a day or two. I’d use the Kwan when I’m blind casting or on a school of happy fish that’s more aggressive. Both patterns are great all around flies as well as pretty fast and easy to tie, particually if you use Estaz for the bodies vs the Poly Yarn. I have found that the Estaz gives you more flash and since we don’t really need the fly to stay up in the water colum like you do when your chasing Poons, the Disco Style body has been just as effective and is a lot easier and faster to tie! You can also do some pretty interesting color combinations which mirror some of the more effective soft plastic color combinations if you need to change things up to get bit or you want to keep the school chew’en after you’ve cought a few.
