Decided to go ahead and start the surf fishing back up again. Threw 3 rods out with #2 size hooks and fresh shrimp from crosbys. Not one bite from 9am-1pm. Last year i started fishing in late march and the whiting were biting like crazy. Does anyone know when the whiting and sharks will start biting again? Or anyone know of any other productive place to fish?
The rocks around breach inlet
Im not a fan of breach inlet. I like the rock jetty at the end of Sullivan’s this time of year for sheepshead. At low tide you can walk out on them and it holds them in good numbers

Wich end are you talking about killerR. Are you talking about the end where you park near ft moultrie and at high tide the beach is gone?. If so i didnt know those small jettys would be good. Ima give this a try this weekend. What type of bait do you use and rigging.
Yes by the fort. They’re pretty good. Use fiddlers or clams. The sheepshead are there. You’ll do well over there

2nd on the rocks behind the fort. Another good place, if willing to travel a bit. Try Edisto beach. Go to 3200 block of Palmetto. Has a steep slope. Try the state park there, also. You can catch tarpon in the surf there in season.
Ya know, it must be nice living in Neverneverland. Remind me to come visit you, when I need a break from reality.
Well… Howd you do?

I went out friday but was so windy i didnt even want to try and fish. I will be heading out tommorow morning. Ill have to check tides. If low tide i will try the rocks on sullys. If not then north folly. Report tommorow.
Cool. Wear good shoes and you can walk out on the rocks. Id recommend a long rod but nothing heavy. You’ll need something light to detect sheepshead bites. I usually raise and lower the rod slowly while fishing for them. The slightest resistance and set the hook. Their bites are very unique and they are a challenging fish to hook. One of my favorites to catch though.

I scouted out that area a couple of weeks ago. Lots of dogs running the beach. No swimming signs posted all over, but It looks interesting. Can you fish the fort area at night and whats better to try to the left or right of the fort casting into the surf. It looked like to the right not allot of beach at high tide and you can get cut off.
You can fish the fort at night. I’ve surfed fished it while shark fishing the grillage and there really isn’t much there but whiting. Breach inlet from the inlet to station 30 on Sullivan’s is better. That spots not what it used to be. Yes the high tides will cover the beach at station 12.
Thank you very much 40. I’m in scouting mode trying to find some new spots, alway’s good to have a back up plan if my usual hole is not producing. I appreciate your help and wish you the best Sir.
The spot I referred you guys to is right in front of the grillage. Sheeps are on the rocks… Yes, you’ll get cut off on the ledge if shark fishing…

I use to park at the fork but shark fished closer to the light house until I found better and safer spots. Station 12 has a ledge that is like 75ft out and its like 3ft deep on top of the ledge at low tide and then drops to like 15ft and then a second ledge to about 65ft. There is a double ledge from 12 all the way to station 20. Between the fort and station 16 1/2 is the shark hole about 80 yd to 150 yds out. Heavy current from the fort to like 26. On a calm clear day you can see the color change at station 12 where it gets deep t he ledge. I’ve yaked and drag in shark weghts from station 12 all the way down to 26. Heavy like 150lb mono or higher top shot is how you beat the ledge when shark fishing. A decent cast when normal fishing will go over the ledge a 12. I know the bottom well there, better then most. The rocks produced trout and flounder last year but few and far between on the harbor side. Breach inlet rocks from he inlet to about 3/4 a mile toward the harbor has way better fishing for game fish. Ill report in May when the flounder move in and I take the yak to breach inlet and clean house on some.
Yeah, I agree everybody should start fishing Sullivans exclusively! Best surfishin in the lowcountry…bar none!
Especially the giant bar at station 30. There is a pick of the gully and bar on Instagram. Biggest bar and gully I’ve seen in charleston.
Stevo fished the left side of the jetty and have had good luck with the sheephead. I start fishing them 1 hour before the low and slowly work my way back to the beach as the tide comes in. The right side has as a lateral jetty under the waterline you can’t see .
The yellow dot on the first pic is the lighthouse. The red arrow indicates the spot where i caught the sharks in these pics in the daylight. The blue arrow is the shark pic i caught at night. I have had tremendous success in front of the lighthouse as i fished there the most and allways had a shark rod out with bait. Couldnt tell you how many runs i missed in front of the light house as well, not sure if it was too small of hook or too big of hook. I think i was using a 12/0 gamagatsu circle. But the arrow in blue i started fishing toward the end of the season last year only 3 or 4 times and boy did i get constant shark action at low tide from sunset and on. One night i missed about 10 runs in a row in about 30 mins. Switched to a 10/0 j hook and reeled in what you see for the night time pic. After that experience i think i have decided to use j hooks this year. The sharks i caught using j hooks last year never gut hooked and were way easier to get out. I also set the hooks right away. Anyway just thought id share my experience and spots to anyone new like i was last year try these places. If you see me come up and say hey. Also this year i plan on hitting the shark fishing big. I got the new 12ft offshore angler ocean master rod coming to add to my old one.
