Folly 4/13: REDS ARE BACK

Fished the south side of Folly today off of a small trough created by one of the rock jetties at 7th street. Got there around 5pm, fished incoming tide until dark. About 45 minutes in I hooked up with something big on fresh shrimp, could’ve sworn it was a shark. Drag on my reel was stuck and wasn’t letting any line out, so I had to play it slow for a few minutes. Got the fish with 10 feet of me when I saw the big red tail and spot. He broke the line off at the hook knot before I could get my hands on him.

Very frustrating stuff, I’ve never caught a red that wasn’t a slot fish, this one looked to be almost 3 feet with a massive brown head. This would’ve been my first.

Only 3 bites total on the day but a very good sign. They are out there and the water seemed mid 60s.
