Long time reader and first time reporter haha. Despite the forcast calling for 20 mph sustained winds I went to the north side of folly with unrealistic optimism. It was my first time out this year. Saturdays are usually my day to fish, but the weather hasn’t been cooperating. I was itching to get on the sand. So I said to hell with the weatherman and got to the light house around low tide, 10:30am, with a half a pound of fresh shrimp and 2 whiting from crosbys. It was cold and very windy. Two guys were giving up and leaving as I was walking down. My plan was to target a big shark with the whiting since it was low tide and I knew I could easily cast to the drop off. Nothing! I was cold and it was windy. I only lasted a hour. I saw Mr Parker caught some black drum last week and decided to hit my drum spot on the way back to the car. Plan B. Plan C was the pier, but luckily B worked! Put one rod out and 15 minutes later hooked into a black drum. Put another pole out and boom double hook up. At this point I think I’m brilliant, but wanted dinner. Caught 8 drum in total in a hour and a half. They got bigger and bigger until I got my slot drum. 17 inch beauty. I didn’t have a ice, so I packed up and took off. Could have probably caught a few more slots but I’m not complaining. Great day!
Dam nice job, MR. Dan.
That looks beautiful out there. Nice report.
That is a pretty good fishing trip! I should have braved it myself, but went shopping instead! YEA!!! Surf temp is still down, the Black Drum seem to be enjoying it. Will be on the beach all day tommorrow. Hope to catch a few myself.

Will get out to Folly when the wind dies down, been 3 or 4 days straight now. dparker, let me know if you ever get to Folly would love to fish sometime. I live out here part of the year.
probably my favorite fish to eat caught from the surf. nice work! i might suggest that a cast iron skillet combined with olive oil, butter, and blackening seasoning work quite well with those.
Actually baked him with olive oil, lime juice, salt/pepper, dill, and a pound of sea scallops. Combined that with French beans and yellow rice. Whole family was very happy Daddy went fishing!
