I’ll be coming down next week to visit my daughter and plan on doing some fishing out at Folly. Any suggestion? Are the Whiting on the bite, Surf or pier? Still snowing here in Michigan. Looking forward to some Sun!
Fresh Shrimp, small hooks on the bottom will catch everything. Use at least 3oz of weight. Pyrimid sinkers would be your best bet. For me the Whiting are not on fire yet. I don’t think they are in full spawn mode yet. Surf temp is still only 65-67 degrees.
and…DO NOT BRING ANY SNOW!!!
or…COLD!!!
I think the whiting are still deeper. I caught a good mess fishing from the beach on the south end of Kiawah a couple of weeks ago. The were right out in the middle probably at least 15-20 feet deep.

I’ve been catching whiting a lot just most are like 9 inches no big ones. For me they are the only thing biting in the surf/inlets if your gonna leave your line sitting use big weights but if you actively fish one rod use a small like 1/2 to an ounce you will have better feel. I’ve been doing some night time shark fishing and getting like one hit a night on the shark lines but fish a little rod to keep busy and use whiting for bait some times. Most of the ones I have used had roe in them so they are spawning. I have caught all mine close to shore in less 10ft of water for shore and probably about 4ft would be the main depth.
