Folly 4/23 IOP 4/24

Went to the light house this past Saturday around noon outgoing tide. This was my first time at the light house, when I got there it didnt look real “fishy”. Water was clear and lifeless. I used fresh blue crab on bottom rigs and ended up with a nice little toad fish haha. Sunday I figured I better use the rest of the crab so i headed to IOP around 10am, since thats where most of my recent luck had been and well, got skunked. Hope to have better luck next time out.

Thank you for your post. When I have fished flat water like that my results usually end up the same. I’ve tried to figure this fishing stuff out for years and put together patterns. One of the things I’ve noticed is allot of goose eggs on my part when the water looks like a lake. It wont stop me from trying though. I appreciate your comment about the crab, allot of folks get good results using them. The newest bait that I have used is bonito. Ten bucks at Haddrels for a good size one gets a fair amount of baits. I saw Follyfisher using these for sharks and his by catch was a 40 inch red! Wow. So I tried it out the other day and the results were pretty good. It seemed that not only sharks like them but -so do reds-. It also seemed that the other usual suspects in the surf ate it too. I was concerned about it being to mushy and not staying on the hook but it wasn’t an issue at all.We can all learn from one another and the benefit of this site is we get to bounce different ideas of one another and become better at what we do. I wish you the best of luck this season things should pick up quit a bit after some warm weather. I see the weather man calling for 87 on Friday:smiley:

Im still learning how to read the surf. Ive gotten a lot better with the expertise of you guys here. I havent tried Bonito, may have to give it a shot. My go to lately has been fresh shrimp. With the weather warming up Ill be frequenting the beaches during the weekends. Being kind of in the middle of IOP and Folly, I go to one just as often as the other. Might see you guys out one morning!

Thanks for the info Bonzo! I think my setup was a little large for Whiting this day. I was using fresh blue crab chunks on 3/0 & 4/0 circle hooks.

10-4 drop down to double drop 2/0 with small shrimp chunks and search that section of river…good luck…
EDIT: if that water is clear and lifeless, move up or down the beach to find where the channel runs close to the beach, then flattens off to a few feet deep…there is so much water moving through that inlet, a little scouting should pay off bigtime…

You’re the man. I’ll give that a shot next time I hit that location!
