Folly 5/26

Set up w the fam about 1:00, about 2 hrs before dead low. Was with the fam so I put just one rod out. Baited it and walked away. Checked it 30 min later and was fishing on credit. Kids kept me busy but when I got some time to actively fish, started nailing the whiting, mixed sizes. If I was holding pole to set on the bite, I’d catch them back to back. But unattended, they weren’t hooking up. Also landed a nice 30" red.
There was a nice trough so I was fishing in front of the breakers, pretty class we in. 2/0 circle hooks and quartered pieces of fresh shrimp, 4 oz on chkn rig. All fish caught hour before and after dead low.
Maybe if I were using tiny hooks n tiny baits, the whiting would have hooked themselves.
Kept a half dozen whiting for the pan.

Sounds like a good day!

We were there at high tide, about an hour before it peaked. Didn’t catch a single whiting but landed a ton of small - medium sized sharks and several slot size black drum. I managed to hook one large fish that I assume was a shark as my line came back completely cut. It was 80lb fluorocarbon, but that’s what I get for not using wire. Very productive day overall.

Give a man a fish and feed him for a day. Don’t teach a man to fish… and feed yourself. He’s a grown man. And fishing’s not that hard.
