Arrived at the beach to pretty green clear water with 1 to 2ft waves. I kept seeing what looked like sand clouds wash through the waves that were like 2ft big and then i saw a yellow and silver flash in a wave that was a jack or large pompano. I casted my bait rod with a home made sabiki rig and caught a whitng instantly. I recasted and walked down a groin to ask some people how the fishing was and onenof them hooks up as im walking up to nice 30inch red but lost it in like 4 inches of water. He said it was his second red he lost that same way in like an hr and he also caught a nice black drum. I walk back to my rod and it doubles over as i get to it and i give it a pull and see a big red flip on the surface and my 25lb mono popped. I cast again and notice my big rod was rubbing the wood so i went to switch the rod holder around and while doing so my sabiki rod got about 300yds tooken off it. I start fighting the fish and have to walk down 2 groins and then i cant get it past the breaking waves for like 10 minutes its flopping on the surface and in the curl of the waves and then i see a what i thought was sand clouds in the waves again, except this time they come out the wave and i see the sand clouds were actually cownose and i saw about a dozwn while i got mine in. It took about 15 minutes to get it in lite tackle style because i didnt want to break off like the red did. It was a solid 50lb cow nose and it stretched my 25lb momoi to the point it curls up like crazy now. I fished 2 yaked baits on my big rods, a shad head and mullet head out and got no action from 430 to 9pm. It looked like little fish or crabs chewed them when i reeled them in to leave. No pics bexuase battery was to low on my phone. Ended up cating like 7 whiting and a cow nose.
That sounds like what i was catching on my bait rod all this past week. They woulf only bite my smaller pieces of bait on my sabiki or small bait the size of a dime on my other small rod. Wouldnt touch my other baits the size of a half dollar.
40 I have seen something similar. Was fishing and just kept seeing huge groups of multiple rays rolling in right up to the shore line and they would turn and roll back out to sea. The process repeated itself for a couple of hours. Pretty neat stuff. I have to sit out a couple more weekends then I get an opportunity to go fishing. Take care sir and good luck!
Bigger than the picture makes it look.
The rays are migrating, go out to pier and watch thousands traveling around it. Cool stuff to witness.
