Fished the county park this past Sunday. Not much action there that day, landed 2 small whiting and my first Pompano at 12" just before low tide around 9am. Pics of the pompano coming soon .
Here it is, my first Pompano. Are these normally caught in the surf?
Nice Pomp! And yes, they can be caught frequently, but it’s a right time, right place, kinda thing. Pomps are cruisers, they seem to move through, feed awhile, then move on.I’ve found them mostly during low incoming, 2-3 hours after the turn. try getting your bait on top of, If there is enough water, just before or beyond the last sand bar. Pomps tend to favor cleaner water as well.
“There’s a fine line between fishing and standing in the surf like an idiot.”
Thanks for the tip Dp! Caught it around 11am Sunday, it was close to dead low tide. Nothing much after this and the 2 whiting, they hit within 30 minutes and it was over haha. Was there from 8-12p
it seems the beaded droppers are key, as has been mentioned plenty of times. I heard of a couple nice ones coming from that area at this time last year too- 2lbers. keep at it, delicious eating fish!
It was pretty fun reeling it in too, she put up a nice fight. About 35-40 yards out at low tide, on my go-to double drop rig with a 2oz pyramid.
