My personal best. 42 inches and guessing 30+ lbs. All Star rod with 30lb braid and cut mullet. My thanks to King of the pier for the advice and to the workmen who were there to net her. Sorry for the odd way I held her - I wanted to get her back in the water asap. We were both pretty exhausted.

That’s a nice one. Did you take a live mullet and cut it or did you buy the mullet? I was thinking of going tomorrow but cutting live bait makes me think it would attract sharks? Thanks for any info!
I used fresh mullet and cut it as I used it. I used big chunks at first, including the head and got 3 huge shark runs - snapped my line (on the bigger surf rod with 60lb braid) twice. I then cut down on the size and no more shark bites, only reds. I hooked into a larger red right after this one. It was a real monster. It actually pulled my wire leader apart! I had it on right up to the foot of the pier, too! Had 2 more reds on for a short time as well.
