Wow, no kidding, I’d like to get out to Folly some time soon and fish the surf.
When did you catch that. I was out at folly too and the surf was so rough that I couldn’t even get an 8 oz spider weight to stick.
Folly River Inlet side by County Park.
Gotcha. Congrats on the catch.
How long was the fight?
30 Mins
Nice fish gentleman, I just bought two of the same reels how did u like them, what did u spool with?
It was spooled with 30lb money.
Mono****
Thanks for reply sir, so you had about 300 yds of line? Ive been wondering if it was enough to handle bigger fish as the cost of braid on several reels is so pricy. I do like some of benefits of braid but cant always afford. Your fish has answered that question. I spoke with captain the other day at palmetto armery and he told me that u dont need 550 yds of braid that if u cant turn fish that far out its probably not going to happen is what he said accurate?
We decided to go Creek side based on the wind direction. Had pretty good success with getting the sputnik wright’s to hold. That is until a big lemon decided to pick it up and run. #128521;
That same reel that caught this fish on 30lb mono a few months ago also caught a sandbar shark the same size off of the front beach. We do use braid on a few other rigs but you definitely don’t need large tackle and heavy line to catch the big boys. It’s not about gear it’s about the fisherman.
