Folly Beach Sat 6/20

Went down to Folly Beach this morning for 6am. I usually head down to West 3rd Street because it’s easy to get my beach cart over the dune. I had cut ladyfish, bluefish and some stingray for bait. I kayaked a ray out first thing and shortly had a screaming hit. It was a good run but then the line just went dead. I reeled in and saw my line had broke. It was nowhere near the leader so I must have had a fray somewhere in the line, (()! I retied and took out a nice chunk of ladyfish. Nothing. After a 2 hour soak I brought it in and saw that the bait was gone but no run… (() again! Decided to give that a break and switched to the surf rod. Threw out some cut bait and the bite was on! Bluefish after bluefish, it was great. I was so happy to be catching something at this point I couldn’t care less what it was. Cast after cast it was blues and croakers all morning. After about an hour of action it started to slow down. I bring in my line, rebaited the hook and toss it back out. I sat down in my chair with my pole in hand when it got slammed. I knew it wasn’t anything HUGE but it was no blue either. It started pulling line and I set the drag, I thought it could have been a stingray but I could feel head shakes. After a few runs up and down the beach I finally get it to shore and it was a shark. The requiem guys are probably laughing at the size of it but it was fun to catch on some lighter gear. It put up a really good fight. Overall I’d say it was a good day down at Folly and a great way to start off my weekend. Thanks for reading!

Nice shark! What were you using for a leader? And what size rod and reel?

I was @ Folly yesterday also, just north of the washout. Put some fresh shrimp on my surf pole & launched it out there. Didn’t even get it out in the sand spike before the line went screaming. Shark about the same size as yours. We caught a couple rays, some whiting, a two blue fish. Fun day though!
