Folly Beach Tiger

Team Aquatic Therapy was at it again Saturday night on Folly Beach. Casted out 2 big pieces of cut bonita at about 6:30pm. Hooked up at 7:30 and landed him around 8:30. We were very suprised by the species of course. Not many people have caught Tiger Sharks on spinning tackle from the beach! So we were both pretty pumped up. Put the tape on him, 8 Feet on the nose. Quick release… Off the fight another day! Amazing catch, awesome fight, and another species checked off the list.

There are more pics coming! Waiting to get them uploaded!

That’s awesome. Congrats. I’m headed to folly in a couple weeks. What kind of rods, reels and line did you have?

I run 2 Penn Pursuit 8000 on two 12 Foot Medium-Heavy Ugly Stick Surf Rods. 65 Lb Power Pro Braid… about 525 Yards of that. 10 Ft of 80 Lb Mono tied to braid with Albright Knot… 2 feet of cable and a 12 ot owner circle hook. Use mostly Bonita for bait as i have a freezer full of it!

Thats killer a tiger on spinning gear, what a catch. Yall are on the board again, congratulations, great day for you folks. Definitely on my bucket list-how rare are these to catch here the only others ive seen were Iggys and some other guys. I do have a question, when you tie that braid to mono with the albright and cast is there a big bump up and does it sort of interrupt the cast bad? Sorry one more, how much line at the peak did that TIGER peel off?

It doesnt affect the cast that much to be honest i hardly even notice a difference. We had 525 yards on it and he took an easy 300 before we turned him.

Did y’all cast for this or did you yak the bait out?

Casted from Shore… We dont use a yak. Short cast too… less then 15 yards.

Tigers are beautiful sharks. Got up close and personal with a 12 footer in the Bahamas years ago. Considering our flats boat was only about 15 feet long, it was humbling.

Watching them on TV is nothing compared to seeing one in person. Truly a beautiful animal.

Thanks, really good to know, that’s all I can do right now with the boat in the shop. Going to try this evening

Before you start taking this post as me being sour, congrats! A Tiger on a spinner is pretty legit. However, did you happen to measure this Tiger or are you just guessing it was 8-foot? I’m not trying to hate or discredit in any way, shape, or form. There isn’t anything you posted that gives a reference to size and I guess my eyes are not seeing 8-feet, but more like 5 or 6-foot at most.

Here is a pic of the 8-foot 1-inch Tiger Chris Miller and I caught 3 weeks a part of each other. It was tagged and measured by Dan on both occasions, I think, for accuracy and reported to NOAA. So when I compare the two, you might see why I’m struggling.

Again, congrats on the Tiger. I’m not trying to hate. I’ll be the first person to issue an apology if you have a pic with measurements.

Yes… It was measured. 8 ft on the nose. My brother ran the tape. It was just us 2 out there… Getting pictures was secondary. Getting the fish ALIVE back in the water was are number 1 priority. But i promise you it was 8. And looking at your pictures confirms it for me… it was exactly that size. Should of stood in the pic to give yall something to compare it too.

If you want a reference, check out the footprints in the sand. They will be roughly a foot in length.
