I fished the end of the rocks Low Incoming tide From 9am-12pm with live finger mullet/ mud minnows, the shrimp weren’t at the bait hole because the rain I guess. Caught 6 reds 10, 12, 13 ,14 15, 16 inches all released, 5 lady fish from 12-18 inches with about 10 shaking of on jumps in the air, a 8 inch jack with a black ring around its tale, 1 pin fish and lost one big fish and many others, most of the fish caught around 10am. I also caught a fish with smooth grey skin and black and white stripped fins and a big mouth kind of like a dog fish but way different it was about a foot and around a lb and can’t figure out what it is.
That fish sounds like a Snake Head, I think that’s what they call them. Do a holler for Cracker Larry he would probably identify better.
I would bet your jack is an Atlantic bumper, based on the black mark on the tail.
Also it’s very unlikely (impossible you might say) that you caught a Northern Snakehead, as it’s a freshwater fish that hasn’t made it’s way into the state
Could it have been a shark sucker? Doesn’t exactly match your description but it’s close
This is not my picture its one I found online but this is the fish I caught a monk fish, and the jack with black ring was definitely not a bumper it was grunting when I took it off the hook and had teeth and bit my minnows like a blue fish.
Southern Stargazer, they can produce an electrical shock as a defense mechanism.
I would guess ringtail porgy for the other fish.

For sure was a star gazer but it says its related to monk fish and taste like lobster and it did shock me when I released it but when it happened I thought I moved weird and caused some sort of hitting your funny bone feeling in my hand.
