Another round of morale beating. Bluefish near the inlet for 2 hours. Whiting and a miny mango at a killer trough that I couldn’t believe didn’t yield any solid fish after 1.5hrs. Paying my dues
Seems to be lots of reports of these “killer” troughs not producing this week. Wonder what’s up?
Better luck next time I guess!

this trough was belly button deep with water barely breaking over the bar at dead low today with a mild N->S current and tons of whiting in it. Seems the troughs may be better early and late instead of the middle of a bluebird sky day like today but who knows. I would sure like to be at this particular trough early in the morning on a calm day with a cork and some live mullet and shrimp.

Do you ever move up or down the trough? Whiting love real skinny water, try to move south, down the trough. Eventually they run out to sea, if you are talking Bull Reds as “solid” fish, they will cruze in and out of the troughs, just gotta find the on ramp. I do believe the Big Reds are out there all the time right now. Sometimes though they could be several hundred yards off the beach doing there thing. Moving into the surf zone to feed.
I will set 4 rods min., two small, two big. This time of year, with less peple on the beach, I’ll spead them out pretty wide. Sometimes covering 30yrds easy. Small rods on the left, big rods to the right. First big rod in the trough the next big rod even further down the trough. If the baby Blues are hungry, chunk it WAY WAY out there, especially if you see bait.
And hey, I LOVE catching Whiting and Blues all day, it’s FUN! And you never know when a Big Red wants shrimp for dinner. I’ve caught alot more Red Drum on shrimp than fish. And rarley use Mullet . Normally chunk up whats bitting and Blue Crab when targeting Bigger Reds.
