Went out saturday caught some big whiting and alot of sharpnose sharks.
Went out monday caught a ton of sharpnose.
Went out today caught 1 38inch red and like 30 sharpnose sharks.
Might try to find another beach to go to. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Im catching a red here and there but i think for 7 hours a day i should be profucing more.
I have come to learn that tapping into a school of bull reds is a lot of luck. No way to predict what time they traveling through or what beach they are off of. Just gotta chunk some bait out and hope for the best. I have been following the forum, your doing pretty good, lot of folks getting skunked in boats going after them that is forsure.
In my experience, you aren’t gonna catch many bulls on a bluebird day. They won’t come in shallow unless its overcast and kinda stormy. Some may call BS on this, and they may be right
I think you have been doing very well, killing it to say the least. Putting up 40 inch fish is not the norm in the surf around here. It is a special day. I’m lucky if I get a couple a season. Your spot has produced allot of nice “big fish.” The other day when Roddy went out and caught 7 nice fish. It was a “great day.” Not something that happens often. Count your blessings. You have had amazing success. Most of the people I know that really lay into the fish take a boat to a barrier island. They spend years hunting down secret spots that produce. My buddy caught 20 one day last weekend in one of these spots. You have been doing great.
These photos are from a couple weeks ago. I think I stumbled by you on the way to urgent care from the ray. Since I only fish 3-8 days a year as I live in Greenville, I get a little better each year and this forum has helped. The day after I caught the Redfish I switched one of the rods to a #2 hook to catch the bait stealers. 3 minutes later I get the ray. Being stupid I got too close and endured the worst pain in my life for 2 and half hours.
I used 3/0 circle hooks for Reds but wondered what is the best hook size for Sharpnose?
Stevo you have been killin’ it for sure. Don’t worry, they are still there, doing their thing. With the big moon phase, the Reds are more than likely using the low tides in the dark. For the next couple days daylight fishing for Bulls will be slow.
OOPS [:0] 'bout to give away a PRO…novice tip!
And if you are catching Sharpies…you’re in the right spot, they are eating the same stuff.
Hmmm i didnt know i could fish for these reds at night time. Why did you have to tell me this my wife is going to be mad.
Size 4/0 - 6/0 circles seem to snag those sharpnoses very easily. I have caught them on small 1/0 bait circles as well though with a bait the size of a dime.
I hold those stingrays tails down with my rod holder and get the hook out. Then shimmy the stingray down with my rod holder as well. Dont take any chances on those guys.
