Had the day off and decided to fish the Folly Pier today. I started about 11am and ended about 4pm. Fishing was sporadic but still productive. I caught about 10 mid size whiting (I noticed they were all female as they had spawn sacks when I cleaned them) Also caught was one huge puffer! Others around me seemed to have about the same catches.
At least you caught dinner, I think I will try for one of those bull reds when they roll in later this year, had a friend catch a really nice one last year

I should note as well that while I was fishing closer to the shore on the pier that the fish are were about exactly the same size. I noticed that the people fishing farther out tended to be catching larger Whiting. I probably should have moved but I was being vein about my dock seat choice
It was a good dinner and will be again tonight!
