Folly Pier Report 4/27

First fishing day of the season for us was yesterday. Came out bright and early right before high tide and had quite a bit of action from the bluefish and the spanish mackerel! All were caught on jigs not our trolly rigs. Spanish were small but still keepers. Right before high tide there was tons of action, almost like a feeding frenzy, caught and lost a good bit, and then when the tide started going out, the action stopped. About 2hrs before and after high tide the water quality was great, about 3-4ft visibility, but outside that time frame the water looked like straight up mud! Thought that the beach renourishment would kill the fishing and ruin the water, but the fishing is starting out promising!

Nice report Kevin. Good to see the pier wasn’t ruined with the renourishment.

Have they even reached the Peir yet?

They are about 5-6 blocks on the lighthouse side of the pier still. From what it looks like behind them they really are not making much of a difference on the beach size. Looks like a giant mechanical playground with no real results if ask me, unless consider making the water up to 1/4mile out look like pure mud.

Guess they’ll be there in a couple of weeks … Hope it doesn’t change much. Fishing hasn’t been the same since the last time in 2005.
