Nice Bull 40. Did you get a 40?
Well when it was in the water I thought it was way bigger because it fought so hard and the effects of looking over the pier. I was sure it was 50lbs and inches but when it made it to the deck it was about 40 to 45 and 20 to 30lbs. My biggest I’ve caught at the pier and the best fish that evening as well as my first big red since september, though I haven’t fished for them. There is a lot of action at sunset mostly sharks but we had like 5 people hook up at once 3 sharks a ray and a red. I had a good time and was red definetly worth th trip.
i’m impressed at you getting that thing into the pier net.
What a catch! I never did have any luck catching black drum or red drum off a pier.
The guy in the background looks like he may have “caught” a “40” or two as well. LOL!!!
No matter how much it hurts, how dark it gets, or how far you fall…you are never out of the fight.
Well I’m holding the fish and the guy to the left was from Colorado and never been to a beach or caught a ocean fish. I put him and his son on a bunch of sharpnose a big sting ray and a beast ripping 33lbs of drag on a spinning reel. 10 minutes after the big one popped of he came up and flexed and was like man that thing had so much power. Great time all around and every one fishing was friendly even when you had to do the pier shuffle with a fish on. In my eyes that red was fishing karma. Out of 10 peepers I reeled in 1 and was the lucky red. They caught the other 9 and had a blast.
what bait did you use?
I’m not sure if it ate cut menhadden, whiting, or perch or blue fish, I know it wasn’t mullet because we were out. That’s what I used throughout the trip. I think it was fillets menhadden.
