Folly questions..

Most of my experience fishing is freshwater. I’m splitting a house for a week the beginning of August, we’ll be staying down by the old Coast Guard station. The gear I have is probably suitable for whiting, pompano, trout, etc. So, my questions…

Do you guys throw carolina rigs in the surf, or do you use pyramid sinkers?

Hooks…I’ve read here and seen people using everything from #6 crappie hooks to bigger circle hooks. Would something like an Owner 1/0 or 2/0 SSW hook work ok? I’ll probably be using thumbnail sized pieces of shrimp, and I was debating buying a pack of Gulp bloodworms and fishing pieces of those.

People say, “fish in the suds”…does that mean where the waves first start breaking. or literally “in the suds” up on the beach? From what I’ve read on pompano most people fish out too far for them.

I’m just trying to keep it simple and catch a few fish for dinner.

Both pyramid sinker and carolina rigs work well. I don’t usually fish Folly but I like bringing a rig setup with a 3oz pyramid sinker and another with a carolina rig. Shrimp should work well or try squid or cut mullet should work very well too.
