Folly surf fishing 8 30 18

Went for a little AM fishing. I wanted to take the yak and surf fish but woke up at 6 30 and felt lazy so i went back to sleep and woke up at like 7 30 to go and it felt pretty hot already so i changed the plan to a short casting session. Breakfast then gas and a short ride to the beach. The surf was calm glassy waves with dirty clean water if that makes since. From the wash put to the light house had bait busting and birds diving as i setup at my spot. I sent out a sabiki with small pieces of cut finger mullet and caught a 10 inch whiting that i put on my big bait rod and walked out to my chest and chunked it as far as i could. Between the walk and cast it was probably over 100yds out. With thw nice calm surf and super slow fishing i decided to go for a swim. Swimming in the water i saw lots of small schools of finger mullet. Far off the beach at the outside bar i could see a dense ■■■■■ of small birds with spanish under them. They stayed there super active for over an hr. After swimming for about an hr i decide its time to head in and pack up since it was burning hot and sunny as heck. I look at my rods in the holder and the live whiting rod gets slammed and doubles over and stops then does it again and stops. I get right next to it it doubles over and starts peeling line. I pick it up give it some drag and it stops and feels like im hung up. I know right away its a big stingray. I lock it down and fight it normal style until my arms are tired and then resorted to putting the rod over my shoulder and walking up the beach. I learned my haywire twist, terminal knot and my fg leader knot are all superb and that the bg 8000 has plenty of drag and a 15ft uglysticks kryptonite is a big stingray. I had the 15fter bent like a u. The freshly renourished sand helped this ray lock down on the bottom. Fished from 9 to 11 and caught a couple whiting, missed a good hit on the sabiki and the big ray. If i was planning to go to the beach or do some fishing in the next few days, i would avoid 11 to 6 unle

Fun read. Thanks for sharing, 40.

Glad to hear bait and spainish still around.

Ya know, it must be nice living in Neverneverland. Remind me to come visit you, when I need a break from reality.

Well i gave it a try on the other end, 10west to see if the lighthouse end had been affected by the renourishment. Similar action, a slow but steady whiting bite on cut finger mullet, only bait i tried or had besides live whiting i caught. It was alot windier in the evening than it was in the AM so spotting bait was hard but i saw some schools of mullet on the park end too and some pelicans diving. I fished from 7:15 to 9:15. Sometging stole my live whiting in the last 20 minutes without me knowing.

In a few weeks surf fishing should get good.

IDK how you swim in the water. I’ve been going in the ocean and swimming since I can remember taking week long vacations to Myrtle beach. But ever since I have moved down and caught and seen all this crazy stuff here even the smallest shell touches my feet I jump out of the water.

Thanks for the read 40. I do believe the BG’s have a one year warranty if you saved receipt and it starts to act up. You can send it to Diawa. Most companies are pretty good with fixing issues under warranty and sometimes they just give you a new reel. Catch um up buddy:smiley:

Ive been fishing those BG 8000s for 2 seasons now Ive got 2 of em. They can take a beating… All the Blacktips DNR tagged with us during the last 2 seasons were on the BG and a couple big lemons too. Sand, Saltwater everything. They work great!
