I went to north end of folly this morning with my girl at 7AM almost to the light house not quite . I’m wondering something? An old man surfing told me you weren’t allowed to surf fish on folly you could only fish from the pier? What are the rules? I don’t go where there are crowds and I always stay clear of surfers which I can’t say the same about them although I wish I could. I don’t want to break any laws so enlighten me please?
Coming from a resident, I can say simply not true! Might not be able to fish from 2nd Street East to 3rd Street West, known as the swimming zone, but I’m not 100% on that one. Realistically it’s way too crowded in that area anyway. IMHO East(North) end is your best bet. You were in the right spot!
1000% false. The surfers don’t like it & he was trying to run you off. Keep on fishing man!
Thanks for the info guys I figured that was the case (him trying to run us off) we don’t bother anyone and mind out own business people like that always amaze me I just don’t get it.

I’m always being pestered by surfer and kite surfers about it. I simply smile and keep casting. Most surfers are very considerate about giving me plenty of room. Keep on fishing and good luck to you.
Only to add I think realistically the only places you are not supposed to fish are the wash out and 500 feet to the right and left of the pier.
I’m looking to get out to surf fish folly as well. I figured I’d stay away with the crowds today. I guess it’s different if you move in on the swimmers/surfers, but if they move in on you and then want to give you junk…Assclowns.
What is the wash out?

I only fish Sullivan’s really but in general if I get there first I don’t worry about other people. I mostly worry about kids. I constantly have to warn people about walking into my lines mere feet from my poles. I try to fish were less people swim too.
Kite surfers can kiss my a$$. They have a whole ocean to play in they don’t need my half acre of beach front. Where I fish regular surfers are not an issue (no waves due to sandbar). The occasional paddle-boarder has to be warned. People are so oblivious to what’s around them its astounding at times.

The beach I fish at luckily people are scarce. Usually Im a fairly social person, but when its fishing time its fishing time.It never fails when Im out the beach the whole beach could be open and when others come out they park right next to me,literaly. I have been pushed out many a hot spot and had to move to less desirable areas as i have a dog and it causes problems-they just dont get it. I always enjoy when they walk by and i leash my dog to surf cart and they have to come directly up to me and the dog and my dog has to say hello and jerks my cart and my beverage spills along with other things.I try not to make eye contact with them and turn my back to them-doesnt work. They just have to come up to me and jump up and down till i see them and say " you catching anything" They see the whole thing unfolding and continue to hang out for tea time. They see it there right there and wont give me any space. I do my best to be considerate to others but they just have to talk to the fisherman . I always respect and go to great lengths to do so,maybe i just need to “RELEASE THE KRACKEN” and let them deal with it maybe they will choose to not sit in my lap.
Post a sign on your cart that can be read from a distance that says “I have a very bad cold, and my dog has fleas”.
Just wear a SARS mask and tell everyone you catch 8’ Bullsharks there frequently.

I just put one of these on ALL 6 of my sand spikes…probably won’t help though.
“If it were catching, Everyone would be good at it.”
I like that.

Philflush, the washout is the area north or the pier down to the old Coast Guard station. A good number of surfers will be parked on the sides of the road watching sets. I’ve never heard you can’t fish there though. Only like LunkerLover said 500ft in either direction of the pier. Good luck out there!
Dparker,
That’s awesome! I want to get one of those for my surf cart! Got any left over?

I was only saying you can’t fish there because I’ve tried and apparently that’s the surfers spot. It got to a point to where I just stopped trying and moved on, there are way better spots anyway
I knew what you meant LunkerLover. Just wanted no clarify. No disrespect intended.
Oh no disrespect taken at all RJ
Hey guys, the regs are no fishing or surfing from 2nd East to 6th West 10am -6pm ,as mentioned ,that’s the “swim zone”. The Washout is just the small spit with marsh on one side ,ocean on the other. Too narrow for any houses . The spot has the most consistent surf in the state,so a lot of surfers … I’ve caught some nice sheepshead and black drum tight to the rocks on light tackle there, but wouldn’t launch an 11’ with a 6oz pyramid in the middle of the lineup. A lot of guys I know surf and fish… They tend to have respect for sharks, but aren’t the least bit afraid of 'em.
