Folly

Not catching much other than shark pups and oyster toads off the boat so I’m not going to waste the gas tomorrow. Anyone having any luck in the surf at Folly? If so, what bait is working? Is there anything in the surf that I could catch in a cast net? I am going to try tomorrow so I will post a report after.

I have not been catching much in the cast net in the surf, not yet. Use fresh shrimp, small pieces on tiny hooks. You never know what will be on the end of that line - but I would put money on it being a whiting

Ended up with sand shark pups and whiting.

Any numbers and size to the whiting, anyone else catching out there…

My past few trips to the surf have been very productive, only everything seems to be small non spawners, Whiting, Spots, Blues and yes bunches of baby sharks. Also landed some big Rays recently. No Trout or Black drum since eary to mid May. Ocassionally a wave of decent Spots will move through. I’ll be out again tomorrow, will post if it’s worth it. Hopefully a Nice fat Trout would like to join me for dinner.

This was caught at Folly at the lighthouse this morning. Huge ray.
I also caught a 32" red a few weeks ago, other than that, slow.

Big one, bet he was hell to get in, those things stick to the bottom, often impossible to budge.

That’s a big Ray! So calm this morning too…

Any one going out to folly today? I’ll be towards the lighthouse. I’ll be the idiot on the kayak.

Pulled a nice trout out last Saturday, but other than that a really slow season.

iggy097, I wish I had you ability to wrangle the rays. The one I got, which was about that size, I left in the surf, stood on the tail to cut my line and waited for it to swim off itself. Was a heck of fight that was for sure.

I can’t take credit for that one, it was the guy that I was fishing with ( that’s him, not me ) - the one I had on at the same time was probably 2/3 of the one he had, still pretty good size. He said the secret was the gloves and grabbing the spine from the top.

Maybe it’s just me, but that stinger and tail still seems awfully close to his exposed (like that would matter) leg.
