Folly

I went out on the incoming tide Tuesday morning and managed to land these two. My first big Red. Measured 38in. Was fishing the north side of Folly using fresh cut whiting.

Nice fish, and really nice beach scenery. Looks like you have a little bit of heaven there.

Nice catch! You got these on Folly? I’ll be there this friday! Where did you get the whiting?

I caught the whiting using fresh shrimp. In response to your other post…I have fished the county park and have done well before. Try fishing around the jetty at the end of the parking lot. I usually fish the right side of the rocks.

Wonderful fish chef, and the beautiful thing is you also know how to cook them, when permitted. Have you ever stuffed cavity and grilled or roasted whole, Ive always wanted to try that on a red . Thats a brutal job you have-and still have energy for fishing-kudos.

I’ll be honest…I have never eaten a Red before. Don’t shoot me. I usually release all the fish that I catch. Not that I’m opposed to keeping them. I actually have only caught maybe a few from the surf. They were never big enough to keep and this was the first that was too big. I’m sure I am missing out on a delicious resource. To be totally honest…I don’t do any cooking in the restaurant world anymore. I actually work at a prison in the food service department. I’m more of a home chef now.

Release the slot reds…eat the Whiting. IMO Red drum is really not that good, unless you smother it in seasonings. Fried Whiting fillets are excellent though.

Nice catch!!!..by the way

Chef,
looks like you had an excellent trip. Thanks for the post. Congrats on that big red

Chef, I too was a chef,it about killed me,I too dont recall eating or serving a red, dont even know if its legal to be honest, isnt it nice to actually have time to fish now and enjoy life, I dont miss it a bit. That was a bruiser you caught and just think-more to come. Hooked on fishing now, not a bad trade off.
