It probably depends on what you are shooting and if you can afford the shafts. The majority of big fish I shoot don’t drop like a stone and sometimes pull me through the water for a while.

Free shafts are good if you can consitantly hit the fish in the right spot. If not you will spend lots of time trying to run down wounded fish. If the vis is bad, that can mean lots of lost shafts. A reel is worthless on scuba, they will tangle up on everything. What kind of gun do you shoot?

+1 on this. Get the speed load system from spearfishing specialties. It will cut down the reload time a lot.
