Freshwater grass carp

Anyone know where I can buy some freshwater grass carp? Or catch some in one of you guys ponds to put in mine? Grass is growing like crazy and I cant stop it. Just need a few carp to slow down the growing.

How clear is the water in your pond?

Im not sure…maybe 2 feet or so you can see pretty good, I dont have a boat in it to actucally be able to look down in there, just stand on the shore. Just a guess on the clarity…

There are big patches of algae/grass type stuff that float around and basically cover one side at a time. And the bottom has it pretty thick too, gets stuck all over your lure if you bounce it on the bottom.

I figure a few carp would solve the problem?

I don’t think the carp will help that much… Sunlight shining down into the water causes the grass growth. This is why you don’t see algae growth in ponds with really dark or black looking water. If you aren’t opposed to it you can dye the water a dark color and the grass will die. Just my 2 cents. Good friend of mine works management of golf courses he said the only thing that will keep it out is to dye it dark.

Check the links below, Nic. Good info for a pond.

You should be able to get a deal on Green Dye in Savannah…lol…maybe some Saint Patricks Day leftovers lol. Might not want green tho:smiley:.

Type in " Southland Fisheries" and it`ll take you to their web site, There are in Hopkins, Sc, looks like they sell them for 10 to 14 dollars each depending on size and are SCDNR certified.

Give my friend Wade Bales a call. He’s a good guy and was formerly Chief of Freshwater Fisheries at SCDNR…now His web site is http://qualitylakes.com. Not only is Wade a fisheries biologist owner of a pond management company, he’s also a good fisherman to boot!

Tell him Jim Goller sent you. (He’s bound to charge you more!)

By the way, Nic…Wade is nearby in Bluffton.
