Making our yearly trip to the island. Staying on Scotts Creek / Jeremy inlet like usual. Would like to do more fishing this year so lets hear the advice for this area. Also taking our 25’ CC this time for the first time (use to have smaller ski boat). May head to Beaufort one day and maybe Otter another but would like to make at least one attempt
to fish a few miles out. Anyone else down there that wants to buddy up let me know. Still learning so any advice helps. Thanks guys!
Here are a few of the common spots I know are productive but aren’t really sacred honey holes (still waiting on them myself)
If you want to fish around otter and the sound, I have caught big reds, some trout, and sharks close to the Combahee light. I would anchor up on the ledge in 15’ or so of water where it drops off real quick. There will be a tide rip depending on where you are in the tide cycle. Fish the rip. Right where the crosshairs are is a good spot.
For the reefs, I will usually drift over and bump bottom with a few lines til I find a real productive spot. Mark on GPS and anchor up if you want or keep drifting. Edisto near shore is pretty good for this but 4ki has more structure. If you figure out your drift right around 4ki, you can fill a cooler and never set anchor.
The N. Edisto reef near the 2NE buoy had small bsb in there last time I went but there was some blues and weakfish, which are fun to catch. Weakfish limit is low but they taste good. I chop up blues to catch bigger stuff.

Thompson321…If you do that Beaufort trip, I’d appreciate you posting some info on that. I stayed in Edisto week before last without the boat and I’m thinking about bringing it next year and doing the Edisto to Beaufort trip.
Thanks Matt! And will do Greg
I did the Beaufort trip with the family over the July 4th weekend and it was a good experience. Just come out of big bay creek into the sound and make a right. Pick up the intercostal markers at ■■■■■■■ cut and it will take you straight to Beaufort. Once in Beaufort we docked at the marina in downtown Beaufort. The marina monitors 68 on VHF (I think) or you can just call on your cell. They have a dock for free parking but it was full when we went so we payed. First hour was free and .50 per foot per hour afterwards. Once at the marina you are in the heart of downtown and several good restaurants are within walking distance. I am happy to answer any questions about the trip. I plotted the trip out beforehand using the Navionics app on my phone. That app is the best $10 I ever spent.

Thanks for the info scbigben28. I recently had a Garmin 546S installed on my boat but due to the weather, I haven’t had much time to get real familiar with it. Also, I’m going to check out that Navionics app.
Any advice on bait and how to fish the nearshore/40/ or 60 if we are lucky with weather? Thanks again!!
Can’t help you with the 40 or 60. I have been to Edisto 3 times this year and every time the weather keeps me from going out.

Bring your dancing shoes. Edisto BEACH AND SHAG FESTIVAL is on Friday & Saturday that weekend. I’ll be one of the old guys acting the fool, great time. After that, down to some serious shrimping and fall fishing. Can’t wait, Edisto is best from September thru December.
