Fripp Inlet April 28

Started off with some excitement with a very large leatherback wrapped up in a net and buoy just off the Russ Point ramp. We tried to idle up next to her but as soon as I touched the buoy she dove. Later, I noticed a post on Facebook where some folks from the State Park were able to land the turtle and free her.

As for the fishing - we headed inshore this time, instead of the rocks, and drifted through some of the deep holes, jigging bucktails tipped with squid strips. We did not find anything.

Later in the day, we found a few whiting and a bonnet head, mostly soaking squid near creeks just before full low tide.

I did manage to catch a larger whiting on a 5" chartreuse jerk shad

Overall, better than last week, but not quite what we’re looking for.
