Has anyone ever fished fripp inlet, if so what is biting out there and on what bait as well as the surf at hunting island, thinking about heading down there to fish at the end of July. I also want To catch a decent size shark, I have fished for sharks all the time but I don’t catch nothing but little sharks. Is there any way to catch a larger shark in that area or does it have to be somewhere besides there.
You might have better luck with bigger sharks in the Broad River(Port Royal Sound)but you will need a boat.
I fished from the Hunting Island pier last year about this time and didn’t catch a thing. However, the inlet to the south(Skull Inlet) is where I caught two 4’ sharks and a 50lb tarpon. Caught the sharks with large cut mullet and the tarpon with a medium sized live mullet. I’ve always had good results with large chunks of fresh mullet on a 10/0 SSW Owner circle hook. That setup may work in Fripp inlet if fishing from the shore. If you have a cast net you could probably get some mullet in some of the marsh pools on Hunting because you won’t find many at all in the surf until Sept.
