Fripp island, first week of October

Gonna be down for a few days. Can/Will anybody tell me, when I head out to the beach from Bonito Drive, should I turn left or right. Looking for local knowledge on which way has the better cuts and troughs, not expecting exact location just a tip on the better direction to start looking.

Fishing from the shore is a little difficult but I would head to the South end. You can park there and walk straight out to the little beach that is on the main inlet and cast in there with a float or on lead. 90% odds are you will get sharks or rays though. For smaller fare you can hit the dock behind the tennis courts. Only other spot i see people at is right under the main bridge. You just have to be careful of all the oysters, it’s really easy to get your line cut.

He could also hit the access on Porpoise Dr. at low tide on the North end.

Is the little mini-lagoon still there on the beach about mid island? And there used to be a few cuts right in that area also, thought maybe with the new moon high tides . . .

???

Anderson, thanks for the drone images. I assume those are relatively recent. And if you can confirm (if you don’t want to confirm I understand), it looks that beach pond probably gets refilled, with each full/new moon tide like coming up this weekend. Also the groin/jetties at the bottom of the first picture, can you get out to it if you get there before the last of the incoming tide. And/or will somebody run you off?

And just in case you are looking for a fishing partner that week, I have owned boats in the past and am fully aware of how much cheaper it is to put gas, bait, and food in somebody else’s boat.

 glad to help they were taken within the last month, i am still out of town on business right now so i cant help out too much. I’m not sure about what the tides are doing there on the beach, but once you are out of the main “tourist” season the locals and security really relax. So don’t worry about being chase off, just be careful… I just hang out there and drink or buzz past the beach on my boat when i head off shore so i’m not the best person for current beach fishing knowledge. I will however tell you that my super smart (geologist) father believes that in the future that sand bar will continue to grow north and eventually wrap around the north end of the island, shifting the Atlantic entrance further north and closer to Hunting Island. It looks like the State’s dredging 20 years ago of the center/ southern end will doom that portion of Hunting island (look at google maps). It has nothing to do with “climate change” just the ocean’s currents shifting sand like they always do.

thanks Anderson, I did end up with a few nice black drum and a 40" 24lb redfish, and we did really well with the crab from the dock in Harbor River form Wahoo Dr.

black drum on shrimp
redfish on a pin fish that was caught in the crab trap
south end of island, Skull Inlet

psearcy419, they do have access point 2 - 14 closed due to gator issues, fished up that was some but even the high tides were barely getting to the lagoon, and no major drainage troughs to fish.

It would interesting, but maybe demoralizing, to see those same pics now…

Yes ,I would like to know if the house off the end Pritchard Island is still there? And If anybody can tell me anything about 422 Wahoo Dr. I sure would be grateful.

The island is slowly getting back to normal today they got the sewer system up and running for most of the island. There are still branches and downed trees everywhere, I didnt get a chance to use my drone but i was there on Tuesday and shot this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HQwCp3TWoPo
In the next couple weeks i’ll try to re create the shots i have to get a comparison. Ohh also the end 20’ of the Hunting Island peer is totally GONE.
