I usually put in at the sands and run offshore but I have been thinking about running out of fripp someone told me it’s one channel you have to stay in and another said it’s wide open any advice will be well appreciated
I’ve never known that channel to be wide open. As a matter of fact, it’s rarely the same from year to year.

Is it accurate on the GPS or will I get into trouble if running in the dark
The channel between Hunting & Fripp? Never run it in the dark. Like Kulmer said, it is always changing and is never easy. Times I have been through there, at low water the deepest I’ve found is 4-5’. Throw in a big swell and you’re dragging bottom in the trough.

Reeltalk - just to be clear I was referring to the channel between Fripp and Hunting Islands.

I’m looking for an easy path to get offshore where is the best place to put in it will probably be dark and I’m unfamiliar with that area
I do not rec launching from there unless you know the waters. The channel is very narrow and on up to date gps maps it shows you on land going in and out of it. You basically cannot get in our out of it on a low of neg tide. I only rec launching from there if you can come and go at high tide. Be very careful as it is much worse then shooting out from the broad at the wrong times.
Put in at station creek and run out of trenchards
Thanks for all the help guys
If you want to run out of Fripp you sure should plot it in the daylight! And stay close to the line in the dark!
My family has a place on Fripp and I run out of the inlet 4-5 times a year. Stay in majority of the time. First time out at night, post storms…that takes stones but you are prolly way more salty than me. Rout by hunting island has changed considerably in the last 12months been thru there twice. Out by Fripp Beach you can read the water fairly easily, if you pay attention.

Call the guys at Fripp marina, they usually place a buoy marking the channel. Just be sure to plot your track on way out and follow on way in and try to depart at high tide and come back at high tide or at least as close as you can.

Last year, the Poly Ball marker was very shallow at low tide. We had to bump our way in on one trip. Outboards are a must.
The channel favored the right side going out, near the rocks. This was before some major tides and storms. It has probably changed over the winter.
I like to scout it out in daylight at low tide. Look for where the waves are not breaking to show you the deeper areas.
Talk to the folks at the marina too before you try it.
Be sure to mark it with man overboard waypoints once you find it so you can find it if your tracks get erased on your GPS.
