I titled it this way because of the Mac Brown discussion.
There will be a lot of factors to consider when choosing the next head coach. Realizing it’s hard to put a value on things like improvement, attitude, players opinion of him, general morale, what results make you say that’s it and give the job to Elliot? Two wins and improvement? Three out of six(which wouldn’t be bad)?, Four wins and a bowl game? One but it’s against Clemson? I say four wins gets him the job. Three and improvement might. I’m looking forward to seeing it play out. He seems like a great guy and I like to pull for the underdog.

Good topic. I can’t really say. I am not much into speculating about these things.
I look upon the factors. If we juxtapose Dabo and Elliott, there is one critical issue that separates the two. This is not a dig on Clemson, but a fair assessment of the differences between Elliott’s circumstances and Dabo’s when he took the helm mid-season.
The economy was in a much different place than it is now when Dabo took over. Clemson was obligated to pay TB’s contract which was a significant burden financially. Hiring a big named HC would have been too much at the time considering CU’s athletic fiscal position at the time. Clemson should very thankful for Dabo in that he saved them.
Elliott has a much bigger mountain to climb. He is following a legend and some very good results sans the last two seasons. Carolina does not have the lagging debt obligation as Clemson did with TB. Carolina can afford anyone in the nation right now within reason. Money won’t be an issue, and that is not in Elliott’s favor.
With the cards stacked against him, Elliott has a much more difficult track to be the man than Dabo. We’ll wait and see, but I am pulling for him as it would be
Good points about the Dabo situation. Separating the two, to just discuss Elliot. I too think SC can and will open the checkbook if the right guy comes calling. Don’t know who that is, but they can afford and will if they choose. I just think if Elliot can win four games(bowl win is a bonus)it’s his. If he does, and they pay big bucks to someone else who doesn’t produce, there’s a lot of “told you so’s”. If they sign Elliot for fairly cheap, and he doesn’t work out after two years, you’re not out of much and you can say you gave him a chance.

Correct on all points. Seems like Clemson folks have forgotten about Charlie Pell and him quitting after the season to go to Florida. CU turned it over to Danny for the bowl game and Woody Hayes punched a CU player for not being devastated their coach had quit on them at the end of the season. They actually cared even though their coach had abandoned them… These statements were tongue in cheek for those that are unable to detect sarcasm. Clemson folk cry how SOS abandoned the team when the two times it has happened to them it was for the best…
I am not sure if there is a number for me. I want to see how the team responds. There is still a component of recruiting that needs to be addressed. I think they need to be short one more Spurrier next year if they decide to give it to Elliott

You need to be short a Lorenzo Ward too.

Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn’t go so far as to call a dog filthy but they’re definitely dirty. But, a dog’s got personality. Personality goes a long way.

Now with the vacancies developing, it will be in Elliott’s favor. If the team improves, and he ignites passion, then it should be his job. As an AD, why compete this year for coaches when there are so many big name vacancies and small pool of great coaches to reload. A Spurrier type doesn’t come around often.
HC Vacancy List:
So. Cal
Va Tech.
The U StaBe before the ACC
Georgia (pending)
Texas (pending)
Nothing to lose and let the dust settle. PRESUMING the effort and improvement factors are there, no reason to not to hire Elliott… Trial by fire contract, 1 year and out…
I ask one simple question: Phayrow Cooper got knock out by a cheap hit, but did not quit.
Shawn Elliott is working with a 6th string walk on QB that stacks groceries on the off season and Perry Orth throw ten times the better ball than…, USC is blue collar and that’s why we will pull the biggest upset in college ball.
A team that has nothing to lose is very dangerous, and I have called this one all year…
