How can this be within the NCAA rules?
It’s only a matter of time. I’ll be surprised if he stays on the team long enough to be draft eligible.

Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn’t go so far as to call a dog filthy but they’re definitely dirty. But, a dog’s got personality. Personality goes a long way.

No one finds it odd that this is within the NCAA rules?

Clemson could only hope so.

Oh no, does Clemson have to play FSU again this year?

It does seem like it should be against the rules. I guess now that Miami and UNC have proved that the NCAA doesn’t have any teeth, teams are going to push the envelope.

It is hard for the little ole NCAA to keep up these things, like
http://sports.yahoo.com/news/ncaa-tells-south-carolina-icing-223722381--ncaaf.html
The NCAA will allow South Carolina to ice away on future cookie cakes.
The school says Tuesday that the football program’s self-reported violation for having decorative icing on prospects’ cookie cakes will no longer count as an infraction.
NCAA spokeswoman Emily James tweets that her organization had talked with South Carolina and the Southeastern Conference and all parties ‘‘agree it’s not a concern & will not be processed as a violation.’’

Cheaters, they should issue sanctions and give them the “Death Penalty”.

Bring it, Clemson wins or loses, can’t play any worse than last year’s game.

Lol, I haven’t seen that.
Scam Newton gets away with chasing a quarter million dollars, but SC gets slapped for frosting recruits’ cookies. Seems appropriate.

Why? The only reason the guy isn’t making literally millions of dollars this year is because he’s stuck in college by rule – and you’d even begrudge him insurance in case he gets injured? Good grief.

I believe that is an NFL rule. If so, it’s not FSU’s responsibility to assure him a professional career, or compensation for the loss of one. You know what colleges are for, right? Correct me if I’m wrong here.
It’s the fact that FSU is footing the bill. If he wants insurance, he should have to buy it with help from family or get a loan and pay it back like every other college player does. Why is it that he can do it and no one else can? They cant even provide a free meal, why can they pay 60 grand for insurance?

Maybe we are talking about two different things. If you think this doesn’t fall within the current rules, then I see your point. If you think this should be the rule, then we disagree. FSU is going to get a very nice return on their 60 grand.
Think about juniors who have a choice to go to the NFL or go to the pros. Take Sammy Watkins for example. If we really care about education for these guys and getting their degree, doesn’t it make sense to allow the school to buy insurance for him to come back for his senior year? He gets protection and doesn’t have to cash in while he can. The school makes a boatload more than 60k on Sammy Watkins jerseys, ticket sales, brand, etc. Wouldn’t it make sense to allow Clemson to have paid 60k to guarantee him 10 million in case he’s injured? He gets his degree, Clemson get’s another year of football and the related financial benefits.
Why shouldn’t that be allowed?
quote:Don't bet on that. Might get waxed by 70 this year.

I’m not saying it shouldn’t be allowed, just that I didn’t think it is currently. It seems like they(FSU) are seeing just how far they can bend the rules and still keep the kid in school at FSU.

I do NOT think it should be allowed. If the kid wants an education…it is free for him to stay. The University is giving him a free ride.
The kid at A&M said that them picking up a insurance policy was a deciding factor in him staying. That is the same as paying him.
So now the rich donors can gift money to this fund, which is funneled to the athlete.
This is a decision for the student to make. education? NFL? insurance? but it is his and he should pay or be rewarded for his decision.
