Full Moon Reds

October has always been my favorite month to target big Reds. This past Sunday was a prime example why I love it so much. I arrived at the beach with my friend and we had rods setup just as the sun was going down. About an hour later, the drags begins to scream and our first red is hooked up. We fight the bull for about ten minutes and finally get him to the beach.

Another hour goes by and the drag begins to scream again. This time the fish doesn’t stop and line is getting stripped off the reel fast. I think it’s a big ray based on how it’s fighting. Finally the big fish gives way and I’m able to gain line, slowly but surely I’m able to work the fish to the beach. Twenty minutes go by and we can see the fish in the surf and it’s a huge red, by far the biggest I’ve ever caught off the beach. We didn’t have a tape measure or anything but the red was as big as my surf cart. I’ll never forget this night fighting bulls under the moonlight

Pescador great night of fishing. I usually have bad luck on full moons. Measure that cart and it will tell you how big your fish was. Nice catching Sir:smiley:

Dang fine time right there! Headed down Sunday. Just spent two hours rigging and packing and double checking gear. Tight lines!

No matter how many variables I have control over, I never expect a bite. I only hope.
