Went out this morning early, 6:30. worked my way up the beach, got into a bed of trout around some rocks near 18th station, and worked my way to 16th and got into a bed of whiting. Got to 16th and the pup sharks grabbed everything I threw out. So I moved back down the beach and got back to the rocks and found the trout again. Caught six trout but only two was the correct lenght, caught six fat whiting. Was off the beach by 10:30 and fish are cleaned and will cook later. A great morning to be out on the water.
sounds like a good day Steven … better luck than most I see post on a day of shore fishing
Bragging may not bring happiness,
but no man having caught a large fish,
goes home through the alley.

what kind of bait/rig were you using?
I was using shrimp/ fishfinder rig, with a 12inch nylon liter and #6 crappie hooks and I used a poormans rig for the trout. The poormans rig works great around the rocks with a one ounce bell sinker and work the rig the same way you would if you were bass fishing. The poormans rig is easy to tie, what you do is tie you weight on the bottom of your line, and go up about a six inches or a foot and get your line and double it up and slide your hook over the two lines and when you do that loop your line around the hook. then figure how long you want the tail to be and tie a knot and you have a poorman rig. Thanks Hurricane, There is fish all over the beach and if people walk up the beach and fish around the rocks and some of the gullys they would tear the fish up.
Knot sure what not your tying, but a Dropper loop knot may work for ya.
most of my surf rigs are made that way

Thank you heart, I never called them that, growing up my dad and grandfather called them poormans rigs. For those who want to tie and try one here is a link to look at.
thanks for that, can’t wait to try that rig. googling “poorman’s rig” wasnt helping, but i’ll call it that when i show my friends, in keeping with your family tradition
