We’ve all been there

I got a tec for a wedding present. Going on 14 years running strong but needs some replacement parts, mostly no fault to the grill. It has been rode hard and put up wet. They are built in Columbia but arent cheap. I about fell out of my chair when I saw pricing on new models. Their service guy is scheduled to come out to the house to give the girl a tune up, should be good to go for another 15 years.

Wow, house calls on a grill. They must be nice!

TEC is the brand I was thinking about but couldn’t remember. Those things are nice, but pricey. Should be the last grill you buy, but my tastes change with grills so not sure if I would want one for 25 years. I remember seeing a small patio model at a beach house in Murrell’s Inlet. Thing was about 15 years old, used 3-4 times a week and left outside by the marsh. Going strong. But back then I think they were about $400 not the $3500 they want now.

I tried to delete one post and deleted both of them… I will repeat what I just had up here he can spend a little extra money and get a grill that will last you a lifetime. John Haney of monks corner builds Alveron custom grills. He is just built one for NASCAR racer Elliott Sadler, and he builds for most of the competition teams In the Southeast. Here is a link to his page.

John is a good friend of mine and we fished together every chance we get. He has taught me a lot about grilling the perfect pork butt and ribs. Before you throw away money on a disposable grill take a look at what he has to offer

No problem Paul, I saw the pics of yours. Nice grill no doubt!. I’m just not ready to spend that kind of money right now. I have way too many mouths to feed and 2 houses to pay for.

John builds smaller versions also, and you can customize them any way you can dream up. I would highly recomend you check him out.

One Simple Thanks!!

Below is a good resource for all things related to outdoor cooking, including grill reviews. I had a Weber and wasn’t as impressed with it or it’s longevity for the cost. I’m not saying it’s bad, just that I don’t think quality gain over a good lower cost grill is not comparable to the price gain. I’ve been more satisfied with buying a good lower-priced grill in the $150-$200 range and getting about 5 years out of it. I can buy a few of those for the price of a single Weber.

Thanks, Godfather, but it was actually my 40th birthday. She’s put up with me for 15 years so far, so we’ll see how it goes…
