hello,i live in south georgia and sheephead fish the jetties here regular…i am wondering has anyone ever speared sheephead on jetties before…if so any tips…are they hard to spear…whats the best tide…please anyone with any info at all please reply…thanks so much
I will tell you what little experience that I have with sheephead is they don’t run off unless you move to fast. I snorkel the rocks sometimes and shoot a few. I am taking scuba lessons as we speak so maybe oneday I can stay down there for a while. Always watch the bottom for flounder, they like the protection of those rocks as well. I don’t know how new you are to snorkeling/diving but make sure that you wear some protection especially from the sun. You will get burned up twice as fast in shallow water as you will laying on the beach. a pair of jeans and a shirt also help protect your skin from the barnacles and hooks that can be hangin off the rocks.
Ham Man what is the clarity of the water when you snorkel around the jetties?
Do you go at low tide or high tide?
man i have vis on the jetties here most of the time 10-15 feet or more…mostly high tide…is low tide better…let me no

Does the water coming in from the ocean help clear it up?
Do you see many sharks?
You usually dont have high visability, usually somewhere between 3-7 feet. IF you do see a shark in that low of clarity water you will probably want to gt back on the boat ASAP! He probably ain’t there to HELP you find fish.
I have ever seen a shark while snorkeling the rocks and jettys. Doesn’t mean that they aint just a few feet beyond my sight.
All this is something I have interest in as well… I have my OW cert, and would like to get into some inshore (jetty) and offshore diving and hunting when I get some of my gear in order.
The issue of sharks at the jetties is one I have wondered about… I fish for 'em out there some for kicks, and they ARE there. Looking at satellite imagery, it LOOKS like the vis might be better on the outside of the jetties here? Not sure… never done it.

I’m too old to dive or snorkle the jetties, but I’m curious…what kind of entanglements are you running into? Lots of lines, rigs and ropes? or it is a pretty clean on the rocks. Do you dive the bottom where the rocks are on the sand or mid-depth?
What’s your coolest treasure?
